The most complete guide to Southern Nevada's mining history.
Honestly, I don't really know much about minerals, but smarter people than me do. Unfortunately, those smarter people couldn't join us that night. Most of us didn't have the proper shortwave UV lights for field collection. Although the area was once a good gold producing area, I don't think we picked a good spot for fluorescent minerals. That would be my fault. Next time, we'll research a little better.
I can't speak for anyone else, but since mineral collection isn't really my thing, I didn't really look very hard. My UV light wasn't the proper wave length and rarely left my pocket. Still, I had a great time. The star views in the mountains at night can't be seen from the valley and something about walking around with a flashlight at night is just fun.
Considering most had to work earlier in the day, we did have a fairly large crowd. Unfortunately, in our rush to get to the mountains we forgot to bring our larger camera. The very few images we did capture were by camera phone, so we don't have a lot to share. If you were hoping to see more, you'll just have to join us next time.
