The most complete guide to Southern Nevada's mining history.
Show up whenever you want, but make sure you account for cook time depending on what you bring. We'll be bringing a campfire grill and cooking over a wood fire. All are welcome to use the grill. Let's plan on eating around noon.
To make sure there's enough food to go around, we need to keep a proper accounting of attendees. If you brought guests that attended any of our previous 2016 events, feel free to invite them as long as we get an accurate count. If you are bringing four people and 15-20 people have confirmed, that doesn't mean you need to bring enough food to feed 15-20. Just prepare a large tray or platter of something. You know how group cookouts work. People bring food and everyone shares.
A few of us will probably feel like shooting that day. Those who shoot, feel free to bring your own firearms. If you don't own a firearm, but would still like to shoot, I don't mind if others want to shoot my firearms. Just be courteous by bringing and shooting your own ammunition. If you'll be bringing your own firearms and don't mind if others shoot their own ammunition, make sure you let me know the firearm make and caliber. I'll add that information to future updates so others will know what ammunition to buy. Don't forget to bring hearing and eye protection.
If you are not able to be in control of a firearm for legal reasons, it will be up to you to maintain your own compliance. If you fall into that category, feel free to just tell people whatever you'd like or nothing at all. Nobody will pressure or embarrass you. We'll work within the honor system, so do not make others an accessory to your felony possession.
Sunset will be around 4:30 PM that day. Depending on the mood of the group, some may choose to stay later into the night or return to pavement early for safety reasons. Those with UV lights for mineral hunting may want to pack them. Sonya and I will likely stay later to enjoy the view and make sure the fire is out.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon.
Please, RSVP for this event and do not make any public announcements.
Attending this and any site group event is with the understanding, agreement, and acceptance of the event liability and waivers.
This upcoming cookout event is scheduled for Sunday. November 13, 2016.
Please, bring a food item. A few have already asked me how much food they need to bring. That depends on a few things like how many people are with your party and how much you want to contribute.
At the very least and to be fair, you should contribute more than your party will consume. You don't have to put much money and effort into your contribution.
If you're bringing guests, please make sure they get a link to this page.

Invitations are extended to those who have attended an event within the last eight months. You've probably met most, if not all, of those currently attending. Invitations do not mean we enjoy or prefer the company of some over others. In some instances, invitations are extended simply because someone asked when we were holding the next event or asked about a specific location.
We've been tossing around the idea of having a group cookout for a few years. There will be no mine exploration involved and no nearby mine fall hazards. Because this will be an above ground social event, there will be no children or pet restrictions, but we do ask that you control both. No exploration equipment will be needed.
This event will be held in Goodsprings, NV, but at a location with access closer to Blue Diamond.
Location: 99 Mine Cabin.

Cottonwood Pass North trail begins here:
35°59'55.59"N 115°26'50.21"W
Once you head south, you have three options to reach the cabin:
Option 1: Shortest route, but more difficult approach. 35°57'21.86"N 115°26'32.11"W
Recommended. Option 2: Longer, but less difficult. 35°56'16.52"N 115°25'59.80"W
Option 3: Longest, but easiest route. 35°55'30.22"N 115°25'48.76"W
Once you leave pavement, expect your trail time to the cabin to be 30-45 minutes of slow and careful driving. Because our trail entry is also our trail exit, those with dirt bikes and UTV's can conveniently park and unload your trailers at the Cottonwood Pass North trail entrance.
