USGS Full Report

Primary Mining: Lead
Secondary Mining: Copper, Zinc, Silver, Gold

Prairie Flower Mine is located South of Las Vegas, Nevada. Nearest towns are Jean, Nevada,  Goodsprings, Nevada  and Sandy Valley, Nevada. Primary mining in the area included: copper, lead, silver, gold and zinc.

There are two sites to Prairie Flower Mine.  The largest and better known of the two is Site 2 next to and joining  the Yellow Pine Mine.  Since that site is better known as the Yellow Pine Mine,  I separated the lessor know Site 1 into its own gallery.

Typical iron bat gates are common to the area.  If a mine has to be sealed, this is the method I find least offensive since it leaves the mine available to local wildlife.  This is the first mine we've encountered anywhere which uses the cupola cap gate design.  There are guano droppings behind the gates.  Nice to know the bat population in the area is doing well.
